CLWSC “HB MAYOR OF THE LAKE” SERIES SLALOM TOURNAMENT RULES

General:

In a slalom event, the participant shall enter the course through the entrance gate, pass around the outside buoys, and proceed through the far end gate.  This constitutes a full pass.  If the participant has not missed any buoys and/or the exit gates, the boat shall proceed to increase speed or shorten the line length if the skier is at their maximum speed and the competitor will be bumped into the appropriate class.  Passes through the slalom course are limited to no more than four passes.  Skiers in the novice classes need only go through the entrance/exit gates and around the green novice buoys to complete a full pass.  The Novice buoy is located 7.5 meters from the center line of the course or 13 feet inside the outside (orange) turn ball.

Divisions

Each competitor will select a division when they register for the event based upon their ability level, sex and age.  Divisions are shown below.  This division shall be used for each subsequent tournament event the competitor registers for, except when a competitor bumps to the next higher division then they shall be automatically registered for the higher division.

Scoring:

In each division a skier will receive a minimum of two (2) passes. Each pass will be scored as follows:

·         1 point each for going through entrance and exit gates.

·         1 point for going around the outside buoys, the skier must return back to the wake and attempt to cross the wake to reach either the novice or regular buoys on the opposite side in skiing position to receive the point.

·         1/2 point is given for going around the novice buoys, the skier must return back to the wake and attempt to cross the wake to reach the buoy on the opposite side in skiing position to receive credit.

·         Skiers in the “juniors” class and above must go around the outside (orange) turn ball to receive credit.  They will receive credit for novice (green) buoys in addition to the outside turn balls they go around.

·         Maximum points awarded for each pass is 11 points.

·         Men’s, Women’s and Jr. Novice divisions – Minimum speed is 16 mph.  Long line (75’) and 15’ off (60’) will be scored the same.  In the event of a buoy count tie, the competitor that successfully completes a pass at a higher speed and/or shorter line length wins.

·         Jr. 4th through 1st class 15’ off and long line will be considered as separate line lengths. A full pass at 15’ off denotes a win over long line regardless of speed or number of buoys

Falls:

If a slalom competitor falls on their first pass, they will receive all completed points up to their fall and be picked-up for a second pass, where additional points can be received. NO additional points can be received on the first pass after a fall.  Any falls after the first pass will terminate the event for the competitor.  If the competitor falls a second time the tow boat will continue to the starting area to pick up the next competitor and the safety/pick-up boat will pick up the fallen skier.

Rope Length:

With the exceptions listed above, Competitors can not shorten rope past 15’ off until they reach their maximum speed for their age and gender. Novice and 4th Class Division competitors that elect to start at long line and plan to shorten the rope upon completing a successful pass must notify the boat judge prior to their opening pass.

Starts and stops:

All competitors will perform deep water starts for the duration of the competition.  Competitors may use a drop ski during their initial take off, but must deep out for each subsequent start. Competitors must notify the boat judge and driver if they wish to stop at the end of each successful pass through the course.  If a competitor does not successfully complete a pass the boat will turn and subsequent passes through the course will be at the same boat speed and rope length without stopping until the competitor successfully completes the pass or 4 passes have been completed.

Equipment:

The tournament committee will supply a rope and handle for the tournament, and competitors are welcome to utilize them.  If a skier wishes to utilize their own handle they must notify the chief judge who will measure the handle to ensure that it meets AWSA tournament standards.  Skis, bindings, Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs), gloves, and any other equipment utilized will be supplied by the competitor.  PFDs must be worn by all competitors while skiing in the tournament.

Rerides:

Rerides are at the sole discretion of the judging staff.  The following are conditions in which a reride may be granted:

·         When a malfunction of tournament committee-supplied equipment occurs, which, in the opinion of a majority of the event judges, adversely affects a contestant, they shall be granted the option of a reride only on the passes affected. In the case of a malfunction of committee-supplied equipment or if there should be fast slalom speeds then, if such an optional reride is taken, the official score shall be the better of the reride score or the score obtained on the original adversely affected pass(es).

·         When a condition gives a contestant an unfair advantage, a reride is mandatory, and the result of that reride shall become the official score.

·         If for any other reason not described above a reride is granted the result of the reride is the official score.

A reride must be taken no later than five minutes after being granted, and may be taken immediately at the option of the contestant  If the contestant elects to take a five-minute rest, the next contestant in order shall ski, and the reride shall be taken at the conclusion of the skier’s run during which the five-minute rest period expires.

A request for a reride may be initiated by a judge for the event before the next contestant starts or may be initiated, as soon as possible, by the contestant or their representative. In either case, the reride shall be decided upon before any further contestants start. If, in the opinion of the judges for the event, the request was not initiated as soon as possible after the contestant skied, the request shall be denied.

Protests:

Protests shall be considered only for failure of the tournament committee or the officials to comply with these rules. No protest shall ever be considered on judgment decisions by the judges. Protests shall be made to the Chief Judge and shall be considered by the Appointed Judges. Protests must be in writing, give the reason for the protest, be signed by the contestant, and be filed no later than 30 minutes after the results of the event are posted and the judges’ scoring forms are available for inspection.

Corrected Scoring Errors:

A correction of an error in the computation of scores shall not be considered a protest. Such correction shall be made upon the approval of the Chief Judge and the Chief Scorer, if requested within two hours after the results of the event are posted and the judges’ scoring forms are available for inspection.

Correction of scores on the Ranking List can be made with the approval of the Chief Scorer and Chief Judge provided the error change was initiated within seven days of posting on the Ranking List. Such a change will not affect the official tournament results or placements. The revision will be made only on the ranking list after submitting the performances and placements as originally scored.

Disqualification:

The following are acceptable reasons that a contestant may be disqualified from the competition:
